Discover your power!!

In our lives, which we all perceive to be very busy and overwhelming most of the time, it is more important than ever to discover your passion, purpose, and focus on those tasks that you make you powerful and energized. Let's read about Anjum.

This Anjum works as a project manager in an IT organization. She is married to John, who is in Media.
At home, Anjum enjoys the so called man kind of tasks: find a plumber, electrician, or do other repair tasks at home, shopping for groceries, getting the car serviced, pay electricity bills etc. She finds cooking very draining and unexciting. Her husband, daughter, and son love good food, who does not but they want a variety in taste more than many others.

Over a period, her guilt quotient rises and she finds that every task including the man tasks overwhelming. Everything at home becomes a burden and she is all over the place and feels totally incapable of being a good wife or a mother.

Sometimes her husband helps her out in the kitchen and the children love his cooking. He is s a natural and enjoys trying out new recipes.

Anjum makes a decision to work with a life coach to figure out how to come out of the feeling of “guilt” and “incapability” and move on. During the first two sessions she realizes that she can ask her husband if he'd be happy to manage the kitchen while she did the other tasks at home.

While she did come from a mindset that a woman must do the housework, she decided to give the new perspective a shot and spoke to her husband. The outcome was that they decided to split the tasks between the two basis what they enjoyed doing.
What did Anjum do? She found her balance by choosing tasks that energized her and not by coping with all tasks. She had discovered her "power".

You can also if you identify tasks that energize you, make you feel happy and powerful. Tasks that don’t feel tiring or weakening. For those tasks that don't make you feel so seek help or have someone who may enjoy it do them.

You can be physically tired by rock-climbing but completely excited and exhilirated because it is your passion.

If you wish to explore further, conciously observe these energizing moments for a week to ten days. Ask the following questions and make a note of your response.

1. Ask
a. Which tasks make me feel good and energized? What do I look forward to in my day?
b. Why do these tasks make me feel so?
c. What percentage of my day are these tasks?
d. Can I focus on doing these tasks for most of the time in the day?
e. Can someone else do or help me with the tasks that don’t make me so energized?
