What can you do to get a job? You have clicked this link because this is the exact question you have in mind. What I am about to share is the strategy that worked for me. I will share these in this article and more to follow. The strategy encompasses more than just applying online or writing to consultants. Therefore, more than one article.
I moved around a fair bit with my family and each time had to look for a job. I got good jobs in MNCs and in different market domains. Each job was an enriching experience.
Let's start our first part of a series of real life strategy.
Before you start on your journey to get a job, you must consider a few important things. These will help you save time and make a good impression in your job search. Let's see what are these important things.
What kind of job do you want?
First be clear about what kind of job do you want. Think about what you like to do and are good at doing. Taking time to determine what you want will enable you to focus on your search.
How long is your resume?
The length of the resume is important to address. Your resume must not be more than 2-3 pages. Resume of 2 pages is good.
Review your resume to ensure that it does not contain unecessary details. Yes, I know every piece of information in your career is important. The best practice is to write your achievements in crisp short statements. The statements must highlight the outcome in measurable terms.
Is your resume up-to-date?
Your resume must be up-to-date. The resume should also be spelling error free.
Do you have a strategy to search for a job?
Do you have a strategy to search for a job? Do you have a timeline in mind? Do you have a list of places you can apply to? Do you plan to apply directly to organizations or go through recruiting consultants? Will you connect with your friend circle? Are you present in places where talent acquisition and recruitment agencies look for professionals?
Based on the above make your list and tick mark what you have done and what you need to do. In the next article, I will share more about writing resumes. Also, we will discuss in brief how to become visible to those who are hiring.
